PELLET PRICE IN APRIL 2023 FALLS AGAIN
During the first part of 2023, the reduction in consumer pellet prices continued, after a year of increases.
Surveys in April 2023 carried out by AIEL – the Italian Agroforestry Energy Association – show that, after a turbulent year, the price of pellets has returned to levels similar to spring 2022, before the summer flare-up that triggered the price race that reached 10.5 €/bag in September 2022 and 9.2 €/bag in January 2023.
Data collected from the member companies of AIEL’s Pellet ENplus® Group and from large-scale distribution average price of 6.19 €/bag in April, 0.4 € higher than the same month in 2022. Territorially, North-East has the lowest quotation, while the Islands register the highest average price.
Consumer advice: don’t delay your purchase!
“Given the pellet price values recorded in April 2023, the advice we can give consumers, especially those who use pellets as their main heating source, is to purchase the biofuel during the summer period to avoid the physiological increases expected at the beginning of the heating season – explains Annalisa Paniz, General Director of AIEL -. The so-called “preseason” market is in fact the most competitive throughout the year, even if, in any case, the increases expected during the heating season will not register trends similar to those of last year, unless there is a new energy shock”.
